Dr. Sudhir Bhave is an M.D. in psychiatry from P.G. I., Chandigarh, one of the premier medical institutes in the country. Apart from other honorary teaching positions in various institutions in the city, he is the founder of, and a professor in department of psychiatry at the NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Nagpur, a post-graduate teacher and guide. A popular veteran of more than three decades in this field, and having treated more than sixty thousand patients till date, he has worked extensively in the community and has played a key role in creating mental health awareness and establishing psychiatry as a credible medical field in this part of the country.
Dr. Bhave has been a topper through most of his academic career, and is a popular teacher and ardent researcher in the field, having authored many book chapters and having published more than twenty-five papers in reputed medical journals. He has been the president of several medical organizations in the region, like the Indian Psychiatric Society (Nagpur branch), Vidarbha Psychiatric Association, Indian Epilepsy Association (Vidarbha chapter) and Academy of Medical Sciences, Nagpur. Over the years, he has chaired several committees at the national level in the Indian Psychiatric Society, and is a section member in the World Psychiatric Association. He has recently authored the national “Recommendations for Screen Use” for the Indian Psychiatric Society and is editing perhaps the first book in the world on “Cyber-psychiatry”.
He has been a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the “Nagpur Bhushan” award, bestowed annually on one person from the city for professional-social excellence.
Keenly interested in music, he is an acclaimed light-music vocalist, has a music album to his credit as a singer and is recognized as an authority on the Hindi film music of the “golden era”.
